Well-established expertise

Laboratoires Expanscience have been developing innovative, safe and effective plant-based active cosmetic ingredients for more than 40 years.

Using various plant-based raw materials – such as seeds, leaves and fruit – our researchers identify, extract, purify and then analyse the active ingredients, without damaging biodiversity.

The scientific application of these active ingredients has led to the development of high-quality products that are natural, high-tolerance and clinically effective.

Our expertise in lipid chemistry and molecular distillation has helped establish us as the world's leading manufacturer of avocado and soya unsaponifiables. These active ingredients are used in the manufacture of Piasclédine 300, a medicine that is used to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis the efficacy of which is recognised throughout the world. It is also France’s* leading slow-acting anti-arthritics medicine.

Plants
genuine molecule factories

With their molecular richness and in all their sheer diversity, plants have numerous exclusive properties.

The ones that we use meet very specific criteria. Safeguarding and respecting biodiversity and ensuring fair trade are among the rules that we strive to comply with.

Since December 2011, we have been a member of the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) which promotes ethical practices in the sourcing of ingredients that come from native biodiversity and are used to produce cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food products.

Safe and sensible plant extraction

Safe and sensible
plant extraction

In order to obtain very high-quality plant-based active ingredients, we use special technologies that do not harm people or the environment. These include:

  • molecular distillation (a “green” process for separating and concentrating the noble elements of oils),
  • biotechnologies, such as enzyme engineering (an alternative method instead of using certain chemical substances).

Using these technologies, we are able to produce extremely high-quality plant extracts, oils, powders and butters. We also promote the use of co-products. Searching for new solutions and opening up dialogues with outside teams are also encouraged.

Our acknowledged control over the supply chain and of plant extraction have helped to establish us as a supplier that is highly appreciated by major French and international cosmetics brands.

Responsible sourcing:
Example of the acacia supply line

Having a responsible supply line for plant-based raw materials is of key importance for us. The Acacia supply line in Burkina Faso is a tangible example of what we understand by this.

It is virtuous in more than one way: it provides economic opportunities for a group of female pickers; it meets local requirements in terms of safeguarding biodiversity; and it contributes to the long-term development of a local ecosystem.
