Our environmental practices

Our actions
Further to the carbon budget (Bilan Carbone®) created in 2009, Laboratoires Expanscience has set up cross-disciplinary projects to reduce greenhouse gases. In addition, a new production unit deploying a high environmental quality (HEQ) framework has been built in Epernon. Actions are also being taken to raise employee awareness of "green" measures.
Our 2015 commitments
- • Reduce gas, electricity use, water use and waste by 20% (compared to 2010) at our Epernon production site.
- • Reduce greenhouse-gas production (not including raw-material sourcing or subsidiary distribution) by 20% (compared to 2008).
Carbon budget
Completed in late 2009, the Bilan Carbone® has inspired projects to improve greenhouse-gas reductions. Carried out by seven cross-disciplinary working groups, these projects cover:
• Use of a motor pool.
• Logistics.
• Employee travel.
• Packaging.
Certification
Expanscience has agreed to set up and maintain an Environmental Management System, with ISO 14001 certification planned for 2012. With this in mind, an analysis has been done of the environmental impact of our business as well as a formal analysis of regulatory compliance. The resulting action plan is now in place, and Expanscience is committed to this approach for the long term. Once certification is obtained, a follow-up audit will take place each year and a new, full certification audit will be conducted once every three years.
Reducing consumption
In 2010, Laboratoires Expanscience commissioned a vacuum pump for the Epernon site (Production and R&D Center) that uses no water, and worked to optimize washing protocols in its workshops. The result was a 15% reduction in water consumption for an initial yearly target of -7%.
Limiting wastewater
Commissioned in early 2011, a pre-treatment facility for sulfate-rich wastewater from the molecular distillation and plant extraction unit helps reduce the pollution load of industrial water before it is processed by the city's treatment plant. This facility required an investment of €1.4 million.
