Innovation and Research
Laboratoires Expanscience’s research division consists of pharmacists and experts in plant chemistry, biology and dermatology. Its research scientists work together every day on developing innovative, reliable and effective active principles from natural sources, for use in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Recognized expertise
Expanscience’s research teams have an excellent reputation for competence and precision. They specialize in several complementary areas:
• Rational, safe extraction of active plant ingredients: this approach using sustainable plant supplies is based on specific technologies, notably molecular distillation and enzyme engineering. Using molecular distillation, a “green” process for separation and concentration of the noble elements of oils, Laboratoires Expanscience has become the leading global producer of avocado and soya unsaponifiables. The use of enzyme engineering, an alternative method to the use of chemicals, also allows a more environmentally friendly approach for the development of peptides and sugars. |
• Knowledge of connective tissue development and remodeling mechanisms: cartilage, gums and skin are compounds of these supporting tissues, which therefore play a key role in rheumatology, odontology and dermatology. |
• Research into the skin’s barrier function: this essential function of protection against environmental aggression and dehydration is very often impaired in the case of dermatological problems. |
• Analysis of inflammatory phenomena and immunity impairments, which are the cause or the consequence of many skin diseases. |
These last three main research themes are worked on and explored using cell and tissue biological models together with biochemistry, molecular biology and histology technologies.
Mastery of these different processes is the key to the development of original and effective active principles in Laboratoires Expanscience’s areas of expertise: cosmetics, dermo-cosmetics, dermatology, rheumatology and dental care.

Strong involvement in research |
Lastly, Expanscience’s investment in research includes supporting theses and post-doctoral work, enabling it to make a contribution to setting up study and mechanistic exploration models, which can then be the subject of international publications. This advanced research contributes to Laboratoires Expanscience’s reputation in the scientific world.
