Expanscience culture

A company on a human scale, Laboratoires Expanscience gives its staff responsibility on a daily basis and encourages communication between departments.  Staff involvement is achieved by all employees being accountable and valued, in order to raise customer satisfaction levels on a continuous basis. The Human Resources policy brings the teams together around a shared vision of the company, which defines itself as learning, efficient, appreciative, expert, responsible, innovative and creative.

A learning company

Laboratoires Expanscience has developed an induction program for new staff. This program introduces them to the company and allows them to familiarize themselves with their new post and working environment.

With the aim of ensuring that all staff maintain and develop their individual and collective skills, Laboratoires Expanscience also pursues a dynamic training policy. In 2010, for instance, 5.54% of the payroll was invested in vocational training, well in excess of the 1.6% imposed on French companies by law.

A responsible company

In 2004, Laboratoires Expanscience committed itself to a sustainable development approach by becoming a member of the UN Global Compact. It has set up a specific organization and action plan which permeate all the company’s activities. Almost 50 staff are now directly involved.

An efficient company

Thanks to the annual performance review system, all employees are well aware of what is expected of them, their performance levels and the action to be taken to develop their careers.

The company has also introduced a transverse project management policy. This cross-functionality leads to improved individual and collective results, and to personal enrichment for all staff. The growth in business during the past year illustrates this improved performance: Laboratoires Expanscience’s income from sales rose from €131 million in 2000 to €233 million in 2009.

An appreciative company

The company values and appreciates both individual performance, via a management-by-objectives system, and collective performance in the form of a profit-sharing and stock ownership scheme.

For many years now Expanscience has operated a bonus distribution system in excess of its legal obligations, based on a special formula. Every member of staff has a significant interest in the company’s results.

An expert company

From R&D to product marketing, not forgetting customer service, expertise is an essential component of Laboratoires Expanscience.

The strength of Laboratoires Expanscience’s research is based on an exclusive process of molecular distillation and two distinct fields of know-how:

  • - an understanding of the mechanisms of connective tissue (cartilage, gums and dermis) and of the cutaneous barrier,
  • - plant chemistry.

At Epernon, in the dermo-cosmetics production facility, the continuous emulsification process represents a special area of expertise.

The marketing and sales teams are dedicated to a specific part of the business. They offer specific and targeted solutions to prescribers, advocates and distributors.
As an example, Expanscience’s rheumatology division makes its knowledge and know-how in arthritis treatment available to health professionals.

Its teams’ expertise is reinforced by the work of the scientific and strategic watch unit, and training programs adapted to Laboratoires Expanscience’s areas of expertise. It takes practical shape in the form of new product or innovative concept launches, patent applications, many cooperative ventures with well known partners, and international scientific and medical publications.

An innovative and creative company

On a par with methodical and realistic project management, the spirit of innovation and creation is one of the company’s core values. In concrete terms, it is evidenced primarily by the company’s implementation of an ideas and innovation management system.

This process, known as the Graine d’ID scheme, is designed to develop the creativity and know-how of all its staff. It applies to subjects as varied as scientific research, product development, workstation and interface optimization or improvements to economic performance.
